If you love a gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller, you won’t want to miss this series. The series is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix, making it easy to binge from the comfort of your sofa. The Capture explores the terrifying universe of deepfake technology, where the boundaries between technology, truth, and surveillance can easily become blurred, making it a story that feels very much of the moment.

The series has been universally acclaimed, receiving a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for both seasons, with season 2 itself achieving a perfect 100% Tomatometer score. Created, written, and directed by BAFTA-winning Ben Chanan, The Capture boasts a stellar cast that includes Holliday Grainger, Callum Turner, Ben Miles, Lia Williams, Laura Haddock, Barry Ward, Cavan Clerkin, Ginny Holder, Paul Ritter, and Ron Perlman.

The series has just been named by Elle UK as the best British psychological thriller to watch now on BBC iPlayer, outranking popular titles such as Showtrial, The Control Room, Doctor Foster, and The Pale Horse.

In the first season, former British army Lance Corporal Shaun Emery, acquitted of a war crime in Afghanistan, finds himself accused of kidnapping and murdering his barrister Hannah Roberts, backed by CCTV evidence.

While Emery fights to clear his name, Detective Inspector Rachel Carey, played by Holliday Grainger, uncovers a complex conspiracy that calls the footage into question.

The second season follows rising politician Isaac Turner, whose life is thrown into chaos when a deepfake video sparks another race against time for Rachel to expose the truth before it’s too late.

Filmed in iconic UK locations including The Printworks in Rotherhithe, The Shard in London, and Canterbury Prison in Kent, the series grounds its high-stakes drama in a realistic and intense atmosphere.

One person wrote on IMDb: “Wow, whole episode (episode 3) keeps you on your toes..expecting big things, then BOOM at the end big twist, truly amazing. Very cleverly written piece of drama, best on current TV.”

Another viewer said: “If there were more shows like this, I wouldn’t leave the living room! Great acting, amazing storyline, twists here there and everywhere. I’m gutted it’s finished but binged it. You know it’s a good one when you can’t wait to get home from work to watch it. Makes you wonder who’s watching you…”

Someone else called Emma wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: “The first season was quite extraordinary and I was gripped for the full 8 hours! Incredibly, Season 2 surpassed the first in every respect. 100/100 from me.

“Best BBC TV show I have seen in decades. The final episode of Season 2 was so multi-layered and double twisting, that I went back and watched it again two days later to make sure I had got it right! Magnificent work and amazing acting, most especially by Holliday Grainger.”

Fans will be pleased to know that a third series was announced earlier this year in April. Filming began the same month, with transmission scheduled for spring 2026.
