Tory Lanez Stabbed in Prison, Taken to Hospital
The musician is believed to be in stable condition with injuries that are not considered life-threatening
Tory Lanez was hospitalized after being stabbed by another inmate at the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi Monday morning, May 12.
In a statement shared with Rolling Stone, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. local time in one of the prison’s housing units. The other inmate was not identified.
Following the attack, Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) received medical treatment and was transferred to an outside facility. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, Lanez was moved to a nearby hospital in Bakersfield. He’s reportedly in stable condition and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
A representative for Lanez did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s requests for comment.
Lanez is serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot during a confrontation in the summer of 2020. He was eventually convicted on several firearms charges, including assault with a firearm, in December 2022.
Since the conclusion of his criminal case, Megan (real name Megan Pete) has secured a five-year civil harassment restraining order against Lanez. He has also been roped into a civil action Megan is pursuing against the popular YouTube blogger Milagro Gramz related to the shooting. Megan sued Gramz last fall, accusing her of cyberstalking, spreading deepfake pornography of her, and intentionally causing her emotional distress. (Gramz has denied the allegations and tried to get the case dismissed, but failed.)
Lanez is not named as a defendant in the suit, though Gramz has been accused of being his “paid surrogate.” Lanez was deposed as part of the case earlier this year, and in April, Megan’s lawyers filed a motion to hold Lanez in contempt of court. They claimed he was “disruptive” during his deposition and “made a mockery of the proceedings,” adding that the deposition was ultimately canceled after Lanez feigned ignorance regarding the definition of basic words and harassed Megan’s attorney.
