Top 11 most historically inaccurate films – popular war film is at No.5 | Films | Entertainment
Films based on historical events are always popular with viewers. The historical accuracy of these films is often debated among purists and the film’s cult following. But with Pearl Harbor at number five, which movie will win the top spot for most historically inaccurate?
Here are the top 11 most historically inaccurate movies, as ranked by Buzzfeed.
11. Bonnie and Clyde
While this 1967 film has a huge fandom, it walks slightly too far from the truth. Bonnie and Clyde are based on real people but in the film they are portrayed to be robbing banks, but when looking into the events, Nate Hendley, author of Bonnie and Clyde: A Biography, found that the pair were actually robbing small-town gas stations and shops, not quite as glamorous as banks.

8. Apocalypto
Apocalypto is another of Mel Gibson’s forays into history. Set during the Mayan empire in Central America, the movie was called by some experts as “offensive”. Julia Guernsey, an expert on pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, said:”There’s a lot of really offensive racial stereotyping. They’re shown as these extremely barbaric people, when in fact, the Maya were a very sophisticated culture.”
