Top 10 most in-demand jobs in the UK for 2026 — one pays over £68,000
The most in-demand jobs for 2026 have been unveiled, with some offering salaries exceeding £60,000. Positions on the list are determined by the largest rise in job advertisements.
The figures come from recruitment website Indeed, which has converted all hourly rates to establish an average annual salary for full-time employment. The jobs featured differ significantly from last year, when school teachers claimed the top position as most in-demand. In 2025, advertisements for school teaching roles experienced a 245% surge in share of postings due to recruitment shortages across England in most secondary subjects.
Property solicitors ranked second with a 111% rise, whilst commercial director positions saw demand climb 108%.
Last year’s highest-paid role was paediatrician, with vacancies increasing by 91% and an average salary of £106,048 annually. The mean salary for positions on the list exceeded £37,430, reports the Mirror.
Pilates studios have emerged throughout the UK in recent years, with devotees including Jennifer Aniston, Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Kate Hudson, and David Beckham. Moreover, the average salary for a Pilates instructor is quite lucrative, at £54,644 according to Indeed.
The second most sought-after job this year is that of a principal software engineer, which also happens to be the highest paying role on the list, with an average salary of £68,461.
This is followed by positions such as traffic manager and school principal.
