Thriller to hit UK cinemas in September is ‘most anticipated release’ | Films | Entertainment

A brand new thriller is preparing to hit screens in a matter of weeks and cinemagoers can hardly contain their excitement.

Onslaught is an upcoming American science fiction action film starring Adria Arjona, Dan Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Alex Pereira, Drew Starkey and Rebecca Hall. Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, Onslaught is a spiritual sequel connected-universe piece to Wingard’s earlier film The Guest (2014), as it takes place in the same town and explores another branch of the same secret military program.

The film’s synopsis reads: “When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.”

Produced by A24, a new trailer for the movie dropped earlier this week, and fans cannot wait.

One person expressed on YouTube: “Really excited to see it! I hope A24 makes merchandise for this movie.”

Another said: “I’m glad they credited The Guest first. It’s legitimately one of the most underrated movies of all time. Dan Stevens was phenomenal, and the soundtrack is absolutely amazing.”

“Thank you, A24, for giving us the best,” added a third.

On Letterboxd, a user added the movie to the listing “most anticipated incoming release”.

Fans took to Reddit to share thoughts on the upcoming film under a thread titled: “Adam Wingard’s ‘Onslaught’ Takes Place in the Same Town and Same Universe as ‘The Guest’”.

One said: “Dan Stevens has said it’s not a direct sequel but a spiritual successor or something like that. I suspected it would at least be set in the same universe. It’s probably the same corporation that created his character in The Guest, even. That company shows up in You’re Next as well. My personal theory is they’ve continued to work on and improve the super soldier program they were experimenting with in The Guest.”

Another said: “I don’t think the movies have anything to do with each other besides taking place in the same town.”

Talking about the movie, Stevens said: “It is a spiritual sequel. That said, it lives in the same universe.”

Onslaught will be in cinemas from September 4.
