Netflix’s adaptation of Ruth Ware’s 2016 novel, The Woman in Cabin 10, has been released and it’s causing quite a stir.

The film centres around investigative journalist Laura “Lo” Blacklock who embarks on an assignment aboard the luxurious superyacht, Aurora Borealis.

During her first night on board, she is convinced she witnesses someone being thrown overboard, but no one else on the yacht believes her.

The plot thickens as Lo delves deeper into the mystery, trying to prove that what she saw was real.

Netflix subscribers are eager to hear what others think of the film, with many sharing similar views.

While some viewers lauded the film for its stellar cast and captivating storyline, those familiar with the book felt it fell short as an adaptation.

Christine Ama shared her disappointment on Google Reviews, stating: “I read earlier this year and then found out soon after they were making a movie. I was excited because I honestly thought it would make a better movie than a book. I was wrong.”

She continued: “Everything that was good about the book and made it suspenseful, even questioning if you believed the perspective you were reading from, was gone.

“Basically, the only similarities are that it takes place on a yacht with rich people, and nobody believes Laura (Lo) when she says she witnessed someone falling/being thrown overboard. Even the characters are either completely different or act completely different. I was really let down.”

Chloe Wilkinson added: “Woman in Cabin 10 is a BRILLIANT book by Ruth Ware and this movie was absolutely trash in comparison to the real storyline and the trajectory of the plot to allow for an equally incredible sequel to the original.

“Within 10 minutes I was absolutely heartbroken that this was such a far cry from the brilliance of the book.

“I hope Ruth Ware doesn’t watch this cinematic car crash of a movie.”

Misha Young concluded: “I read the book and it’s sequel and they are better than this Netflix version. I can understand changing some things from the book to movie, but a lot of it made no sense. Adding characters who weren’t in the book and had no real meaningful purpose to the story also made no sense to me.”

Nevertheless, Maria Lewis declared it was “well worth the time”, explaining: “How anyone could give this a bad review is mind-boggling. It was excellent! 90minutes of intriguing questions with no overly long and useless scenes or characters.

“It’s Keira Knightly after all and in her entire career she’s never made a bad film decision.”

What rating did The Woman in Cabin 10 receive on Rotten Tomatoes?

The film garnered a dismal 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Rachel’s Reviews declaring: “In every element it was terrible.”
