Fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty are eagerly anticipating a highly awaited film, and one leading star has provided an exciting fresh update.
Based on the cherished novels by Jenny Han, the teen drama has established itself as a firm favourite amongst Prime Video audiences as it chronicles Belly Conklin (portrayed by Lola Tung) while she experiences her first romance, heartbreak and burgeoning independence during summertime at a beach house, Cousins Beach.
The Summer I Turned Pretty recently broadcast its third and final series last summer, but it wasn’t long before the show’s creator confirmed the narrative was far from finished, as a new film would be produced continuing Belly’s story from where the programme concluded , reports the Mirror.
In a statement at the time, creator and author Jenny Han confirmed there was “another big milestone” remaining for the main character. She stated: “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due.
“I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

Now, an exciting development has emerged as Lola Tung has confirmed Han has begun developing concepts for the premise. Speaking to Variety, the star revealed: “I’ve talked to Jenny a lot about ideas. I’m excited to read the script.”
When questioned about a treatment that was purportedly being shared, Tung quipped: “No one sent it to me” as she offered her perspective on where she believes Belly and Conrad Fisher (played by Christopher Brine) would ultimately find themselves.
She continued: “They love each other so much”, before acknowledging she envisions the pair in a long distance relationship with Belly residing in Paris.
In December, Jenny Han provided an update for enthusiasts as she revealed: “I just wrote it.” Speaking at The Wrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit, she also confirmed that the film will not be arriving that Christmas like numerous viewers anticipated.

Enthusiasts will recall Season 3 concluded with Belly ultimately choosing to pursue a relationship with Conrad after cancelling her wedding to his brother Jeremiah (played by Gavin Casalegno).
Currently, devotees continue to speculate regarding what the film may entail, with official particulars presently unknown.
On a Reddit thread, one individual remarked: “For me, that’s why the idea of the movie is so exciting. Jenny has said she’s had so much fun writing it, and that she wants to show Belly and Conrad being in love.
“I’m sure there will be some conflict of sorts to get everyone back to Cousins, but I don’t think it will be related to them as a couple.”
Another proposed: “It’s part of what’s exciting about it! Jenny gets to surprise us with a new plot because the old one was kind of wrapped up. Obviously we’re gonna get the wedding, at least we better.”
A third suggested: “I think Jenny Han is as much of a fan as we are of these books and wants to show us Conrad and Belly as a couple (she even said this!). I think this movie is going to be exactly what we need!”
