A psychological thriller that’s a “masterpiece” is finally available on UK streaming platforms – and you may never have heard of it. Film critics said its limited cinema release kept it under the radar, but eight months later, it’s available on Amazon and Apple, and they believe it deserves way more recognition.

“I just watched it at a horror movie festival and it was a masterpiece,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “Hallow Road deserves more hype – what a fantastic movie!” The film begins as two parents, played by Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys, are jolted awake to a distressing late-night call from their teenage daughter, who has just accidentally hit a pedestrian.

Paramedic Maddie and her husband Frank jump in their car and race to get there before anyone else stumbles across the scene.

As they move deeper into the night, disturbing revelations threaten to tear the family apart as they realise they may not be alone on Hallow Road.

The Redditor added: “Not sure if it’s been slept on by the horror community since it’s (fairly) marketed as more of a thriller, but it has a lot of horror elements, and I’m sure horror fans will love it.”

The movie is minimalist and set almost entirely inside a car, but the tension builds throughout, leaving one reviewer to say it still haunts them eight months after they watched it.

Writing for review platform Tom’s Guide, they described it as “one of the best movies of 2025 that you (probably) didn’t see,” owing to its limited cinema release.

The writer said Hallow Road “still haunts me”, adding: “Hallow Road gets under your skin, in the best way possible.”

The film earned a respectable 89% from professional critics on the review platform, Rotten Tomatoes. As always, it divided viewers, with some saying it was too mystical, or that “too many things that just don’t quite add up”.
