Over the decades, incredible war epics have been made covering conflicts ancient and modern. Daily Express has looked through the major streaming services, from Netflix and Amazon Prime to Disney+, to rank the 12 best on offer. And it turns out two of the films listed are available to watch for free.
12. Kingdom of Heaven – Disney
Sir Ridley Scott’s Crusader drama stars Orlando Bloom, Edward Norton, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Liam Neeson in this heavily fictionalised but entertaining portrayal. Set in the lead up to the Third Crusade, the action focuses on Balian of Ibelin fighting to defend the Kingdom of Jerusalem from the Ayyubid Sultan Saladin.

11. Troy – Netflix
This ancient epic adaptation of Homer’s Iliad sees Brad Pitt’s Achilles leading an all-star cast that also includes Eric Bana, Peter O’Toole, Sean Bean, Brian Cox, and, once again, Orlando Bloom and Brendan Gleeson.
