Tesla and SpaceX are discussing a possible merger, Musk says
Tesla and SpaceX have formed special committees to discuss a possible merger, Elon Musk said during the latter’s third quarter earnings call Tuesday.
Musk, who serves as CEO of both companies, said the special committees have not reached agreement on the terms of any transaction — and that there’s no guarantee that they will. That said, he called the possibility of a Tesla-SpaceX merger a “good idea.”
“I think it would be a good idea,” Musk said. “But it’s really up the special committees of both companies.”
Earlier this month, Barclays published a client note suggesting a potential Tesla-SpaceX combination could be announced ahead of Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting scheduled for December 3, 2026.
