Tesco and Aldi issue emergency refunds with ‘no receipt required’
Tesco recalled a popular sandwich pickle as the product “may contain pieces of glass”, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) pointed out.
Tesco stated: “We have been made aware that a specific date/bath code of Tesco Sandwich Pickle 295g jar may contain pieces of glass. Therefore, this product could pose a safety risk if consumed.
“Please do not consume this product and instead return any affected product to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.
“Tesco apologises to our customers for any inconvenience caused. If you require further details, please contact Customer Services directly on (UK) 0800 505 555; (ROI) 1800 248 123.”
Aldi is also offering customers the ability to return an “unsafe” product for a full refund without the need for a receipt.
Aldi is recalling Ashfields Grill Chinese Pork Loin Steaks and BBQ Pork Loin Steaks because of a labelling error. The label shows incorrect use-by dates making the products “unsafe to eat”, the FSA stated.
Aldi said the move was a “precautionary measure” but, nonetheless, customers are asked to “return this product to their nearest store where a full refund will be given”.

The FSA pointed out “serious food safety risks” after products manufactured and supplied by Bread Spread Ltd have been found to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Popular baguettes, French sticks, sandwiches, rolls and wraps “are also subject to a number of hygiene and traceability contraventions which makes them unsafe to eat”.
Such products, typically supplied to catering establishments and corner shops across the UK, “should be removed from sale and not consumed because of serious food safety risks”.
The FSA added: “Environmental Health and Trading Standards Services have been alerted.”
