Taylor Swift Drops Acoustic Versions of ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Songs

Taylor Swift has dropped some new versions of The Life of a Showgirl, this time she’s going unplugged with a few of the album’s songs. The acoustic tracks are available on four new CDs on the musician’s website for the next 24 hours “while supplies last,” she noted in a social media post on Saturday, Oct. 4.

“File this under ‘save your best for the finale’ … I think my favorite moments from the tour were the acoustic surprises,” Swift wrote on social media. “So I went back into the studio with [producers] Max [Martin] and Shellback to record acoustic/unplugged versions of a few of the Showgirl songs with brand new vocals and production!” The post includes photos of all four CD covers and a list of two stripped-down tracks that appear on four different CDs.

The Life of a Showgirl (Alone In My Tower Acoustic Version) features “The Fate of Ophelia (Alone In My Tower Acoustic Version)” and “Eldest Daughter (Now You’re Home Acoustic Version).” The Dressing Room Rehearsal Version includes “Wi$h Li$t (Settled Down Acoustic Version)” and “The Life of a Showgirl (Dressing Room Rehearsal Acoustic Version).” The Life Is a Song Acoustic Version is paired with “Opalite (Life Is a Song Acoustic Version)” and “Ruin the Friendship (My Advice Version).” There is also the So Glamorous Cabaret Version, which includes two “Elizabeth Taylor” renditions: “Elizabeth Taylor (So Glamorous Cabaret Version)” and “Elizabeth Taylor (Original Songwriting Voice Memo).”

The Life of a Showgirl is already on track to potentially break Adele’s 25 record for largest sales week ever in the modern era, per Luminate data, having sold 2.7 million copies in traditional album sales during its first day, Oct. 3. The number includes all of the album’s digital and physical versions thus far, prior to dropping the four new acoustic CD variants. One day in, and it’s already Swift’s biggest album sales week ever, and only Adele has eclipsed Showgirl’s first-day numbers with 25, when the album sold 3.378 million copies in its debut week in 2015.

Swift has offered numerous variants of her 12th studio album, including the Target-only The Life of a Showgirl: The Crowd Is Your King vinyl edition, which comes in “Summertime Spritz Pink Shimmer” as Swift described the color, and it includes a poem penned by the pop star.
