SZA Offered to Write With Taylor Swift — and She Was ‘Open to It’
“She’s so bossed up,” the R&B star said of the Tortured Poets singer
The last two Grammy Awards gave fans of SZA and Taylor Swift new photos of the pair linking up. On Friday, the R&B star visited the Jennifer Hudson Show, and shared a little insight into what the pair of stars talked about — including a possible collaboration.
“It’s so interesting to me. Every time she walks up to me or approaches me, I’m just like, ‘All right, this is happening, because that’s fully Taylor Swift,’”said SZA. “I think what I mentioned was that I would love to write with her and love to build some things together.”
“I love her storytelling. She was open to it,” SZA added. “I think she’s awesome. She’s so bossed up.”
SZA, who recently revisited her album SOS with a Lana second part, praised some of her fellow songwriters — including Chappell Roan, Doechii, and Gracie Abrams — for their work. “I love storytelling. There’s something about that type of storytelling,” she said. “It’s a deep inner storytelling that reflects their human experience and it reflects that.”
While accepting her award for Best R&B Song for “Snooze” earlier this year, SZA spotted Swift in the crowd and adorably said, “Hi, Taylor!” as she accepted the award. “I love you,” she added. At this year’s awards show, SZA snapped a new photo with Swift alongside her bestie Lizzo.
During her JHud interview, the singer also reflected on her “30 seconds” joining Kendrick Lamar during the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime show. “It ended up being the perfect amount of time for me to face a fear, try something brand new, get my feet wet in a space that I pray to be allowed to grace again,” she said. “I’m just grateful. God gives you a little bit and shows you what’s possible.”
