Stranger Things star’s ‘best film in franchise’ on Netflix | Films | Entertainment
A ‘heart pounding’ horror film that fans admit leaves them stressed the entire time while watching, is now streaming on Netflix.
Added to the platform’s library as of today (March 25), subscribers can now watch A Quiet Place: Day One.
It is a prequel to A Quiet Place and according to its synopsis, is set in New York City when the world comes under attack from an alien invasion.
A woman and other survivors attempt to find a way to safety. It’s not long before they realise that they must remain absolutely silent to have any chance of surviving.
The mysterious creatures are blind but are drawn to the slightest sound.
While some fans label the original film as one of the scariest horror films ever, Day One serves to expand the world’s lore and is cited as a prequel and spin-off ‘done right.’
It was written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, who was hired thanks to his feature debut Pig, which starred Nicolas Cage. Now Netflix fans can see how the story begins for themselves with the first film also available on the service, reports the Mirror.
Sarnoski worked alongside the original film’s director and star John Krasinski on developing the story. Leading the cast is 12 Years A Slave and Black Panther star Lupita Nyong’o.
She is joined by former Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn.
Djimon Hounsou also features, reprising a role he plays in A Quiet Place 2. While the film did not manage to rate as highly as the two main film entries, it still registered an impressive 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
One critic described it as “a heart pounding ride driven by heartfelt drama” and a “near perfect franchise prequel.”
Meanwhile, one reviewer went as far as to say: “Michael Sarnoski writes and directs the best film in the franchise so far, something that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who was floored by his debut feature.”
Another remarked: “Enjoyed it, kept me feeling nervous the entire time! Loved the dynamic of the two main characters.”
While some have suggested the film is not a conventional horror, bearing more resemblance to an action disaster movie at times, others confessed they were still left unsettled.
One viewer posted: “Great movie, suspenseful and kept you guessing what would happen next. I know I jumped a few times! I would recommend seeing it!”
