Spider-Man: Brand New Day hit cinemas today in a much more grounded and mature New York City adventure for Tom Holland’s Web Slinger. Despite Hulk, The Punisher and Yelena showing up, there were no multiverse shenanigans with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield this time around.

However, we can definitely expect them in the upcoming Marvel two-parter, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. None of the Spider-Man stars have been confirmed for Doomsday, out in cinemas this Christmas, but there are rumours that at least Maguire will cameo. As for Spider-Man Brand New Day’s single post-credits scene, does it tease Avengers Doomsday? I’d say it’s more likely a foreshadowing of Avengers: Secret Wars, suggesting Holland might not appear until the 2027 sequel.

In the end credits scene, Ned’s Spider-Man tracker loses track of Holland’s Web Slinger, with it repeatedly saying, “Location unknown”. The circular Spider-Man face marker then starts moving away from New York, then Earth and beyond the Moon. After a momentary malfunction, it suddenly says. “Location found” as the Spidey marker settles somewhere in Outer Space. So what could this mean?

Either, like in Avengers: Infinity War, Holland’s Spidey is set to travel to another planet during the events of Avengers: Doomsday, or it’s a set-up for Avengers: Secret Wars. What I mean by that is Doomsday is expected to conclude with the multiverse colliding and Doctor Doom creating Battleworld (“a patchwork world made from the remnants of destroyed realities”), as in the comic book storyline. Perhaps this indicates Spider-Man travelling there?

Spider-Man Brand New Day is out now in UK cinemas. Avengers Doomsday follows on December 18, 2026 and Avengers Secret Wars a year later.
