Snack product recalled over ingredient not mentioned on label

A recall notice has been issued for a popular snack after it was revealed that it may contain an ingredient and allergen that wasn’t mentioned on the label. Food brand Cottage Delight and the Food Standards Agency released an announcement on Wednesday, January 28, that the Cottage Delight Garlic Stuffed Gordal Olives may contain almonds.

This poses a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to almonds (nuts). Cottage Delight explained that the recall has been issued to a “potential cross contamination”. The product included in the recall is the 280g pack size with the best-before date of 12/2028. The brand explained that the best-before date can be found on the lid of the jar.

Customers who have bought the affected product have been advised not to eat the olives, especially if they have an allergy to almonds.

Cottage Delight is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. 

These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. The olives can be returned to shops for a full refund.

The brand urged customers who have bought the item to check the best before end date (12/2028), which can be done by taking a picture of the notice or writing down the best before date for reference at home.

If the olives are in the batch that’s affected, customers have been advised not to end them, and returned to the store purchased at and request a full refund.
