Shaboozey and Jelly Roll Team Up for ‘Amen’ Duet
The single features on re-release of Shaboozey’s 2024 album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going
Shaboozey‘s supersized Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going deluxe edition, out now, now features a duet with Jelly Roll, titled “Amen.”
The song is a big, foot-stomping country rave-up that finds the singers asking for divine intervention. “Somebody say a prayer for me ’cause the pills ran out and I still can’t sleep,” they sing. “Somebody send a word upstairs because the bar shut down and I’m go knows where.” Of course, it all leads to a big passionate “Amen,” and from the looks of the smiles on their faces and the way they dance side-by-side in the music video, somebody’s listening to their prayers.
The Where I’ve Been re-release features six bonus tracks. In addition to “Amen,” it includes “Hail Mary” (a duet with Sierra Ferrell), “Blink Twice” (with Myles Smith), and three songs with no guest artists: “Fire and Gasoline,” “Good News,” and “Chrome.” The new edition is billed as Where I’ve been, Isn’t Where I’m Going: The Complete Edition.
The original edition of the album ranked among Rolling Stone’s list of the Best Country Albums of 2024. “When he sings on the LP, which is often, Shaboozey reveals a weary baritone imbued with Nashville heartache, and his songs effortlessly blend the deep-bottom sonics (and occasional sense of dread) of hip-hop records with the beefy choruses of post-Shania country pop,” the magazine said. “Most importantly, tracks like the brooding ‘Highway’ and the rhythmic ‘Annabelle’ prove that Shaboozey — who had a pair of big-time cameos on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter — is way more than just that bar song.”
