Sainsbury’s issues recall of air fryer as people urged to ‘stop using immediately’
Sainsbury’s has issued a product recall notice for an air fryer sold at its stores. A small number of air fryers have been identified as having a potential manufacturing defect, which could cause the appliance to overheat and pose a fire risk.
The air fryer, created by brand Tower Housewares, is being issued with a voluntary recall to “ensure the highest standards of safety and quality”. The brand is urging air fryer users who have bought the affected model to stop using it immediately. The issue has been identified within specific batches of the affected products manufactured between January 2022 to April 2023.
Sainsbury’s wrote on its website: “A small number of units have been identified as having a potential manufacturing default that could cause the air fryer to overheat and pose a fire risk. Please stop using the item immediately, and check if you have an affected product by locating the product number on the base of the air fryer.”
The air fryer sold at Sainsbury’s affected by the recall includes:
- T17067 Tower 4Ltr Digital Air Fryer
- SKU number – 143897281
Tower wrote in a statement on its safety website: “Your safety is our top priority. We recently identified a potential issue with certain Tower air fryer models and are conducting a voluntary recall to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality. If you own an affected model we’re here to make the process as simple as possible.

“Simply follow the step-by-step instructions in the following pages to confirm if you have an affected model, and if so what replacement options are available to you.”
The product number can be found on the bottom side of the appliance. To find the product number on the air fryer, consumers are being asked to unplug the appliance and tip it onto its side.
Locate the product number on the appliance rating label. This number will be the number starting with T.
Once you have identified the appliance model number, users are being asked to visit www.tower-safety.co.uk to see if the air fryer is affected by the recall. If it is, follow the instructions on how to return your affected product.
Sainsbury’s wrote: “We take the quality and safety of our products extremely seriously and would like to apologise to customers affected for any inconvenience this may cause. No other batches are affected by this recall.”
