Ryanair and easyJet passengers urged not to pack 3 things in hand luggage

Travellers who choose to fly with budget carriers such as Ryanair and easyJet can take advantage of remarkably low fares by travelling with hand luggage only. However, these airlines, along with many other low-cost operators, charge passengers additional fees for larger cabin bags or checked luggage.

Should you arrive at the airport exceeding your permitted luggage allowance, you could face substantial excess charges. Matthew Corrigan, CEO of Trtl Travel, recommends that one of the most effective ways to make the most of your luggage allowance and dodge extra costs is to pack cleverly. In recent years, numerous airlines have tightened restrictions on the quantity of hand luggage passengers may bring aboard. Ryanair now permits passengers to bring just one small luggage item per person free of charge.

Matthew said: “Airlines such as Ryanair, British Airways, easyJet and Jet2 are cracking down on hand luggage passengers.

“One of the main downsides of travelling with only a carry-on bag is significantly less space for your belongings. Whilst this may seem like a deal-breaker, there are some simple ways to maximise the space in your hand luggage.”

According to the expert, this means leaving certain everyday essentials behind, as these could be occupying considerable space or adding unnecessary weight, reports the Mirror.

Travel expert Matthew has some shrewd advice to banish your packing headaches for good. He suggests: “Avoid packing items that will be provided by the accommodation – such as hairdryers, towels, and toiletries. Only pack items you’re certain you’ll need, and attempt to share phone chargers and other gadgets wherever feasible.”

Before stuffing those enormous bottles of shampoo or a cumbersome hairdryer into your case, verify with your hotel first; chances are they’ll have these amenities available. And realistically, you can purchase toiletries at your destination if necessary.

Travelling somewhere cold? Matthew’s tip: wear your coat and thick jumpers on the aircraft rather than cramming them into your luggage.

Walk through departures wearing your winter clothing, he advises, because ultimately, you can drape your coat over your arm if you become too warm. Additionally, it won’t be counted towards your cabin baggage allowance and you’ll prevent getting chilly during the flight.

He added: “It’s best to wear large items such as jumpers and coats onto the plane rather than packing them. This frees up space and ensures you don’t get cold during the flight.”
