While the busiest month of the year may have passed, Royal Mail is continuing to process large volumes of post and packages through its national and international networks.

Royal Mail is the UK’s flagship postal carrier, ensuring mail is responsibly delivered and collected across the country.

The British postal service aims to deliver to all addresses across the UK, six days a week.

However, Royal Mail has issued an urgent service update today (January 4), warning Britons there may be “ongoing disruption to mail delivery, collection, and distribution” due to the Met Office‘s amber weather warning for snow and ice in parts of the UK on January 4 and January 5.

The update reads: “Although we will strive to maintain our services in areas where it is safe to do so, the safety of our people is our top priority.”

Royal Mail has listed the postcodes covered by the Met Office‘s amber warning for snow between 9pm on Saturday, January 4 until 11:59pm on Sunday, January 5:

  • East Midlands (DN, LE, LN, NG, PE, S and SK)
  • North East England (DL, DH, NE, SR and TS)
  • North West England (BB, BD, BL, CA, CH, FY, L, LA, M, OL, PR, SK and WN)
  • West Midlands (B, DE, DY, ST, WS and WV)
  • Yorkshire and Humber (BD, DL, DN, HD, HG, HU, HX, LS, S, TS, WF and YO)

Royal Mail has also listed the postcodes covered by the Met Office‘s amber warning for snow and ice between 6pm on Saturday, January 4 until 12 noon on Sunday, January 5:

  • East Midlands (CV, DE, LE, LN, NG, NN, PE, S and SK)
  • London and South East England (HP, MK, NN, OX SL, SN and WD)
  • North West England (BB, BD, BL, CH, CW, FY, L, LA, M, OL, PR, SK, ST, SY, WA and WN)
  • South West England (BA, BS, GL, HR, OX, SN, SP and WR)
  • Wales (CF, CH, LD, LL, NP, SA and SY)
  • West Midlands (B, CV, DE, DY, HR, LL, ST, SY, TF, WR, WS and WV)
  • Yorkshire and Humber (DN, HU and YO)

The Royal Mail added: “Please note, this list is not exhaustive, and there may be other postcode areas affected. It is always best to check the Met Office websiteOpens in a new window for the latest information.”

In other parts of the UK, local issues such as high sick absence levels, resourcing, or other local factors may prevent deliveries as usual.

The one postcode affected by these issues today (Saturday, January 4) is served by the Gosport Delivery Office (PO12 and PO13 postcode areas).
