Royal Mail update as 4 postcodes face delivery delays
Households expecting a Royal Mail delivery today could experience delays on Thursday, February 6.
Royal Mail Group, through its UK division UKPIL, owns and operates around 1,400 delivery offices across the UK.
A single Royal Mail office typically serves a range of postcodes within a specific geographical area. Depending on the size of the delivery district, one office can serve hundreds or even thousands of postcodes.
This is where mail collected from postboxes, businesses, and post offices is sorted based on the delivery address and then loaded onto delivery vehicles for final delivery to individual addresses within the local area.
However, local issues can impact the logistics of sending mail to its final destination on time.
Royal Mail has apologised to households serviced by delivery offices in London and the West Midlands which are experiencing resourcing problems today.
In its latest service update statement, the postal service said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.
“In a small number of local offices, this may be impossible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.”

- Tooting DO (SW17)
Royal Mail assured customers that when deliveries are impossible, it will rotate deliveries to minimise individual delays.
It added: “We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers normally receive.”
Elsewhere in the UK, the postal service’s air, rail, and road networks operated to schedule over the past 24 hours. This means it moved letters and parcels between distribution hubs and mail centres on time.
