Royal Mail has today issued a delay warning for specific UK postcodes. The courier company has disclosed that certain regions of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland may not receive their letters or parcels on time.

Despite its air and road network operating as planned over the weekend, there are delays in some delivery offices. Royal Mail stated: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”, reports the Mirror.

It continued: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”

Royal Mail keeps its customers informed about the most affected offices. As of Monday, March 9, 14 offices are experiencing delays.

Impacted areas include Glasgow, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Pontyclun.

These delays coincide with Royal Mail’s announcement that it will be raising the price of stamps from next month. The cost of a first-class stamp will rise by 10p to £1.80, whilst a second-class stamp will increase by 4p to 91p.

The price of a first-class stamp was 64p in 2016, signifying an increase of 181% over the past decade.

Royal Mail has attributed the price hikes to the escalating cost of delivery as letter volumes decrease and the number of addresses rises.

Nonetheless, it is under growing scrutiny for failing to deliver mail punctually. The last time Royal Mail achieved its annual target for timely first-class post delivery was in 2019-20.
