The Earl of Snowdon joined members of the royal family at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday afternoon, as they continued their long-standing tradition ahead of Christmas. Prince William and the Princess of Wales were among those who arrived to celebrate the annual seasonal lunch alongside the King and Queen.

But while most guests opted for their own cars as they made their way through the palace gates, Princess Margaret’s son decided to arrive by bicycle. This unique choice sparked a frenzy among royal fans and quietly reinforced his reputation for doing things his own way.

The 64-year-old, who is reportedly worth a whopping £30 million, pedalled through the palace gates wearing a high-visibility jacket over his suit.

The Earl also sported laid back baseball cap and gloves, proving that even a royal arrival can be handled with everyday sensibility. It was a moment that stood out precisely because of its lack of fuss.

Taking to X, fans were thrilled by his no-nonsense entrance: “I remember him showing up to an event like this a few years ago. Seems very down to earth.”

Another chimed in, “God, he`s great isn`t he.” While a third added: “David Earl of Snowdon would 100% be me showing up to a family party.”

The furniture designer is best known professionally as the founder of luxury design company Linley, a brand celebrated for its exquisite bespoke furniture and interiors.

He also serves as the honorary chairman of Christie’s UK, Europe – a role that places him firmly within the world of art and design at the highest level.

As the son of Princess Margaret and the nephew of Queen Elizabeth II, the Earl occupies a unique position within the extended royal family.

While he is not a working royal, he remains a familiar face at key royal events and family occasions – having recently attended the late Duchess of Kent’s funeral.

His appearances often attract attention for their understated elegance and individual flair rather than strict adherence to royal protocol.

His eco-friendly arrival was not without precedent. Back in 2019, he was photographed cycling to Buckingham Palace to attend an engagement hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II, making it clear that this is a personal preference rather than a one-off statement.
