The festive season is nearly upon us!
While Christmas may be just hours away, don’t overlook the potential for a financial windfall hidden in your change. It’s well known certain coins can fetch a pretty penny.
To celebrate the season, TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard unveiled a Christmas-themed design that could be worth hundreds, with its value expected to soar. So do you have this unique coin in your possession?
In his video, he informed his 209,400 followers: “This 50p is worth over £300, save this! This coveted collectable coin is a new edition of a rare Christmas themed design first issued in 2003, inspired by Raymond Briggs.
“The Snowman was first published in 1978, the magical tale of a young boy’s snowman coming to life was adapted to a short animated film in 1982 which has become a mainstay of British festive TV schedules.”
According to the TikTok user, the 2003 Snowman and James Coyne was the first in a popular series, produced in partnership with Popjoy Mint to mark the 25th anniversary of the original story book.
It’s believed the coin was struck for the 30th anniversary in 2003. The design depicts James and his frosty friend preparing to take flight against a backdrop of seasonal fir trees.
He concluded: “The value of this coin has increased dramatically over the years and easily sells for over £300 today.”
Meanwhile, the Royal Mint’s Snowman coin series features original designs by award-winning illustrator and animator Robin Shaw. The Snowman, first published in 1978 and adapted into a film in 1984 by Raymond Briggs, is an iconic winter tale.
Now a clip of the coin has already attracted thousands of likes and comments from eager collectors. One enthusiast noted: “There’s a new one in the Christmas calendar,” while others proudly claimed ownership.
