Pulp Share First Trailer for ‘What Do You Do for an Encore?’ Doc

Pulp have shared the first trailer for What Do You Do for an Encore?, the upcoming documentary about the Britpop band centered around their 2025 comeback tour.

“How do we get to a moment like this? That’s a long story. The Pulp story,” frontman Jarvis Cocker, who also serves as the film’s narrator, says in voiceover. “The real life version of Pulp has been far more interesting than anything I could have imagined alone.”

Soundtracked by a live performance of the band’s classic “Common People,” the trailer for Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore? combines archival video from the group’s history paired with concert footage from Pulp’s 2025 tour in support of their most recent LP More.

The Garth Jennings-directed film will premiere exclusively on Mubi on September 25. One day prior to that, the documentary will screen for one-night-only in American theaters on September 24; check out the Mubi site for locations and ticket information.

“The film weaves together footage from their ingenious live show with four decades of never-before-seen archival material, charting the band’s circuitous journey from Sheffield outsiders to unlikely cultural icons,” Mubi said of the movie, which will also feature 20 songs culled from the 2025 concerts.

Jennings, the filmmaker behind Sing and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, previously helmed the music videos for Pulp’s 1997 single “Help The Aged” and their 1988 track “A Little Soul.”

“Back in the summer of 2022, I first heard a rumor there might be a Pulp reunion and I was over the moon,” Jennings previously said in a statement. “Pulp, Jarvis, and those songs really mean the world to me and the chance to see the band perform together again was a much-needed beacon of joy in a time when things for many of us have seemed relentlessly gloomy. My next thought was of how much I would love to capture this moment on film, so I got in touch with Jarvis and we began to talk about the show as well as the film that could emerge. Inspiration came from a line from This Is Hardcore: What exactly do you do for an encore?”
