Prince Harry handed bizarre award days before huge trip | Royal | News
New research commissioned by toilet roll brand Cushelle and done by Walr in February crowned the Duke’s explosive book the best read to relax in the toilet. Harry released Spare in January 2023 and sparked a huge uproar with its various bombshell claims.
It is thought that the book further deepened the rift between the Sussexes and the royals.
Now, it’s emerged that Spare is the nation’s favourite choice to flick through, as one in ten Brits picked it as their ultimate read.
Behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings, who was involved in the study, said: “The toilet is one of the few places where people feel briefly removed from demands and social expectations, so they often gravitate toward books that are immersive, conversational or even a little provocative.
“A memoir like Spare fits that perfectly, it’s easy to dip in and out of, emotionally engaging, driven by personal storytelling – and no coincidence that its title could also be interpreted as precious ‘spare’ time!”
Second in the list was How to Lose Friends and Alienate People by Toby Young, which gathered 9% of the vote, slightly ahead of 1984 by George Orwell (9%) and A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking (8%).
Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby (7%) completed the top five porcelain page turners, with Being Jordan by Katie Price next, followed by Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code
Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice came eighth, just nosing ahead of My Autobiography by Sir Alex Ferguson and Bridget Jones’ Diary by Helen Fielding.
The survey of 2,000 Brits, which was ran between February 12 and February 16, delved into the nation’s toilet habits with three quarters (74%) admitting they regularly escape to the bathroom for a bit of peace and quiet.
