Popular UK supermarket to open 18 new stores — full list

Supermarket and convenience store chain Co-op has announced it will be opening a swathe of stores in the first quarter of 2026, with a collection of new locations and current branches re-opening after a major makeover. The first new location to open its doors in 2025 is in the new neighbourhood development of Willowbrook Park, Didcot in Oxfordshire. 

A total of 18 locations will be opening and reopening, following a “transformative investment” which has been made to help “enhance” the shopping experience on local high streets and communities. The first to re-open following a major makeover includes a convenience store in Eastern Green, Coventry and a franchise-operated site in Ealing, London. Co-op stores will be offering everything from coffee, bakery products, Fairtrade products and fresh and healthy produce, as well as featuring new services. 

These added services include payment services; parcel collection and returns and, the online home delivery of groceries. Kate McCrae, Co-op’s operations director, said: “We’re focused on creating local stores which are more than just a shop, they are a hub locally that contribute to local life and conveniently meet the needs of communities.

“Our stores have a focus on quality products and value for our members and customers, with a great range of deals and promotions on the items shoppers want to buy.”

She added: “I’m delighted to see our first new store of 2026 open in Oxfordshire, as we start 2026 with an active store opening programme to increase and enhance Co-op’s presence in high streets and communities all across the UK.”

The supermarket chain highlighted that around 86% of the UK population has access to Co-op groceries online, through Co-op’s online shop (shop.coop.co.uk) and partners including Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats. Co-op is also offering soft plastic recycling facilities in stores, making it easier for shoppers to return harder to recycle materials. 

These include crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and pet food pouches.
