Playboi Carti Releases New Album’ Music’
After one more slight delay early Friday morning, Playboi Carti finally dropped his new album. The LP is called Music, though the cover art sports what was thought to be the original title, I Am Music.
Music marks Carti’s first full-length album in five years, following his celebrated 2020 effort, Whole Lotta Red. With a whopping 30 tracks, the album features an array of special guests, including Kendrick Lamar, the Weeknd, Future, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla $ign, and Skepta.
Young Thug also makes an appearance on the album, and it was apparently his feature that caused the last delay this morning. After weeks teasing the album’s imminent arrival, Carti officially revealed its March 14 release date earlier this week. At the stroke of midnight on the East Coast, he shared a graphic listing all the features on the album, with one blacked out. He then shared another post clarifying that the album would drop at midnight pacific time — so he’d have enough time to squeeze in that mystery feature from Young Thug.
“HAD 2 MAKE SURE SLIMEEEE WAS ON DIS MF,” Carti posted on X.
Carti has been working on, and teasing Music, for years now. The long rollout began all the way back in December 2023, when he started dropping new singles every week, only for an album to never materialize. Fans hopes were stoked again last fall when Carti launched an album pre-order page on his website, which promised the record would ship no later than six months from Sept. 12. (That would make March 12 the actual deadline, which, well, close enough.)
Amid the wait for a new solo album, Carti did at least offer fans a string of notable features, including tracks with the Weeknd, Travis Scott, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, Future and Metro Boomin, Camila Cabello, and Latto.
Music’s arrival also lines up nicely with Carti’s set at Rolling Loud this weekend, with the rapper headlining the Los Angeles festival on Sunday, March 16. Carti sill also support the Weeknd on his upcoming Hurry Up Tomorrow stadium tour, which kicks off in May.
