Paw Patrol toy recalled at M&S, Tesco and more over asbestos risk

The Paw Patrol Sand Art Pictures Kit from Addo Play Limited has been removed from sale and is being recalled from purchasers. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) cautioned: “The product presents a risk to health as the sand included in the set may be contaminated with a quantity of asbestos.” Addo Play Limited has recalled the items, which were stocked at The Entertainer, Tesco and M&S.

It is described as a sand art kit containing multiple colours of play sand and plastic bottles.

The product was available through The Entertainer, Tesco, Hobbycraft, M&S and British Garden Centres stores and websites between September 2024 and February 2026.

The OPSS stated: “The product presents a risk to health as the sand may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos. Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a risk to health even at low levels of exposure.

“The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.” The toy carried the item code 320-14142-N. If bought from MandS, the product will carry the code T553666.

M&S stated: “The product is no longer available for sale online or in store. We are recalling it. If you purchased the product online, we will automatically issue you with a code to be redeemed online in lieu of refund to the value of £5.”

The company has urged customers to dispose of the product following advice from the OPSS and clarified that it should not be returned to the store.

The Entertainer commented: “Our testing has shown that the Paw Patrol Sand Art Pictures product may contain trace levels of asbestos. The overall risk is considered low, but because asbestos should not be present in any amount, Addo Play Ltd is issuing a recall notice for this product.

“We are advising customers to stop using this product immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.”

Disposal instructions

If you possess the product, you must cease using it immediately. The OPSS advised: “If the sand is still in its packaging, place in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double tape it securely, label it clearly and store in a secure location out of the reach of children.

“If the sand has been used, clean up sites where the product was used using wet cloths to avoid generating dust. Wear gloves and a mask. Double bag the sand, gloves, mask and cloths.”

The statement continued: “Keep children and other people away from areas where the sand has been used until the area has been cleaned.”

Discard the product in your general household rubbish, then get in touch with the retailer from whom you bought the item to request a full refund.
