Yesterday, it was reported that President Donald Trump has been lobbying financial supporter Larry Ellison (and his son David Ellison, CEO of Paramount Skydance) to revive anti-woke action comedies of the 80s and 90s.

In particular, Trump wants them to bring back Brett Ratner’s Rush Hour series, starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.

Rush Hour 3 came out 18 years ago and since then Ratner has directed Amazon MGM’s upcoming Melania Trump documentary.

Clearly, the message got across, as Rush Hour 4 is now in the works with Paramount set to distribute.

The long-awaited sequel with be Ratner’s first movie since 2014’s Hercules, starring Dwayne Johnson.

The Ellisons are currently the favourites to acquire Warner Bros Discovery in the ongoing bidding war; a studio that owns New Line Cinema, which produced the first three Rush Hour movies.

According to Variety: “Paramount will be paid a flat distribution fee to release Rush Hour 4 theatrically and won’t be on the hook to market or finance the film. Meanwhile, Warner Bros… will get first-dollar gross, meaning the studio will get a percentage of box office revenues before the financiers recoup any costs.”

This comes eight years after Warner Bros severed ties with Ratner over the multiple sexual assault allegations against him, that he strongly denies. The outlet added: “Multiple distributors were approached after Warner Bros let the director and producers shop the new Rush Hour around town, but none wanted to be attached due to Ratner’s involvement.”
