Paquita la del Barrio and Bad Bunny: Remembering Sweet Moment Onstage
The two stars shared a moment onstage, with the Mexican legend playfully calling Bad Bunny “inútil,” or “useless,” which she often said in her songs
Throughout her multi-decade career, Paquita la del Barrio was known for working with the greats of música mexicana like Juan Gabriel, Joan Sebastian, and Jenni Rivera. Before her passing this morning at 77, the Mexican powerhouse that blazed a path forward for women in the genre was also beloved by the newer generation of artists. Becky G and Karol G famously referenced her breakup anthem “Rata de Dos Patas” in their 2022 smash “Mamiii.” Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny was also a fan of Paquita’s. At the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards, they shared a very memorable moment onstage.
At the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards, Paquita la del Barrio was honored with the Trajectory Award, which reflected the impact and importance of her legendary career. When she walked up to the podium in her sparkling dress, the shadow of the microphone that was too high up was on her face. “I can’t reach it,” Paquita said in Spanish. Then from his seat in the front row, Bad Bunny rushed up to the stage to lower the microphone. While standing next to the star that towered over her in height, Paquita playfully called him “inútil,” or a “useless man,” which she commonly said in her songs like “Me Saludas a La Tuya.” She then thanked Bad Bunny as he held the microphone down during her emotional speech. After shedding a few tears, Bad Bunny gave her a sweet pat on the back.
Paquita la del Barrio was living her best life at that awards ceremony. In addition to the moment with Bad Bunny, a blue-haired Karol G later went to meet Paquita in her dressing room who overjoyed with the encounter. Paquita was known for being unapologetic in her mariachi and ranchera songs, but that night showed her gentle side.
