Outlander star Sophie Skelton has given fans a tantalising glimpse into the eighth and final season of the hit Starz drama, following the release of a trailer that sparked widespread speculation about a mysterious voice, reports the Daily Record.

In an exclusive chat with Reach Screen Time, the actress, who portrays Brianna MacKenzie, opened up about the concluding series.

The 31 year old Manchester-born star described the end of the show as “such a bittersweet moment.”

Skelton shared: “I think we all felt really strongly that it was coming to a point where we could all wrap this up beautifully, or we could drag it on and kind of take the mick.

“Actually, I was quite excited for season eight because I knew that we would go all out. I knew that everyone would tie it up with the closure and the magnitude that it deserved, and I think it really did that.”

She continued: “I think it was probably one of my favourite seasons to film because it felt like we were all closer knowing that it was the end, and I feel like people who don’t always have the patience on set had more [patience] on set.”

She also took the opportunity to thank the fans for their unwavering support over the years, which extended beyond the show to their “other jobs”.

Teasing what’s in store for the final season, Skelton revealed: “I think we ended it on a high. Season eight was great to film.

“I think it’s a good season too. It’s one where I really felt like Brianna really is the character I’ve been wanting to play for a while.

“I think the one thing this show struggles with naturally is that there’s just so much content from Diana’s books to fit into one season.

“So often, things have to be chopped, but I’m really proud about the way the writers have written Brianna this season and I’m really proud of the woman she’s become.

“I really enjoyed playing that version of her. She’s grown up a lot, she’s really settled into herself and being a mum and family.”

Adding: “She’s just a really cool person now. She’s this little warrior now, and I love that.”

The actress found shooting series eight emotionally challenging and experienced different phases of mourning alongside her on-screen mother, Claire Fraser, portrayed by Caitríona Balfe.

Skelton is currently occupied with fresh ventures and recently starred in psychological thriller Row.

The picture centres on the lone survivor of a catastrophic Atlantic crossing who attempts to reconstruct the devastating incidents that led to her shipmates’ demise whilst proving her innocence, despite experiencing amnesia.

The performer will also feature in a country music film serving as a follow-up to I Can Only Imagine, which she filmed in Nashville, Tennessee.

The star appears opposite Dennis Quaid, Milo Ventimiglia, and John Michael Finley.

Skelton confessed that as an avid country and western enthusiast, it represented a dream film to work on.

She is now anticipating what lies ahead and new ventures following almost 10 years dedicated to Outlander.

ROW is available on DVD & Digital platforms now

Outlander season 8 will air on Starz and MGM+ via Prime Video in early 2026
