Netflix has just shared a huge update about a forthcoming film already being hailed by movie fans. In the Hand of Dante will be coming to Netflix next month after debuting at the Venice Film Festival last year.

The movie boasts an impressive cast of Hollywood stars, including Frankenstein star Oscar Isaac, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, and John Malkovich.

Further cast members include Louis Cancelmi, Sabrina Impacciatore, Franco Nero, Benjamin Clementine, Paolo Bonacelli, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, and Jason Momoa. In the Hand of Dante is adapted from the 2002 novel of the same name by American author Nick Tosches.

A longline for the movie reads: “In the Hand of Dante follows the parallel lives of a New York author (Nick Tosches) in the 21st century who embarks on a violent journey after he is recruited by a mafia don to steal Italian poet Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy written in the poet’s own hand, and Dante in the 14th century seeking inspiration to write his most important work – each man unknowingly connected through time and their obsessive quest for love, beauty, and the divine.”

Audiences who have already watched the film have posted glowing reviews on IMDb.

One person titled their 10/10 review: “One of the best films made in a decade,” and they went on to say: “This is by far one of the most beautifully well thought out stories ever to be put to screen with an absolutely perfect cast, stunning cinematography, shocking grit, wondrous romance, diabolical humor, and incredible attention to detail.”

A second wrote in their top-tier review: “In the Hand of Dante is an amazing film that really pulls you in with its story and emotions.”

Adding: “The whole cast is great, but Gadot really stands out and carries so much of the movie’s heart. This is definitely a film worth watching, especially to see her shine.”

A third reviewer gave it 9/10 stars and described it as a “nearly perfect movie”.

They elaborated: “This is real cinema. A must-watch for those who can admire a scene for what it means, not what it shows.”

Netflix recently dropped a trailer that sees the action switching between black-and-white in the present to colour in the 14th century, featuring Isaac as author Nick, who is tasked with stealing the handwritten manuscript of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy.

At the same time, Nick is trying to write his own great work, and his and Dante’s lives run parallel in their search for inspiration.

In the Hand of Dante will be released on Netflix on June 24
