A ‘brutal and underappreciated’ contemporary war film is departing Netflix within days.

Subscribers to the streaming platform have fewer than seven days remaining to view the movie and are being encouraged to catch it before it’s too late. The title concerned is 2007’s The Kingdom.

It features an outstanding ensemble cast including Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Entourage’s Jeremy Piven, Monster The Jeffrey Dahmer Story performer Richard Jenkins, and Ozark star Jason Bateman.

The picture also boasts a soundtrack by Danny Elfman who is renowned for creating The Simpsons theme tune as well as films including Batman and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

According to its plot summary, The Kingdom tracks federal agent Ron Fleury as he receives the most crucial mission of his career. He has one week to assemble a team, infiltrate and destroy a terrorist cell based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Culture shock and resistance from local law enforcement combine to hamper his progress and that of his elite squad, but a sympathetic Saudi police captain becomes an unexpected ally. It was helmed by Peter Berg who subsequently directed Lone Survivor and American Primeval, reports the Mirror.

Regrettably, time is now running short for audiences to experience the film themselves on Netflix. The streaming service has confirmed that the final day to watch the movie will be February 9.

Following that date it is anticipated to be withdrawn from its catalogue. Whilst it may not have achieved massive critical acclaim during its original cinema run, it remains strongly endorsed by film enthusiasts who have already watched it.

Its audience rating stands remarkably higher at 76% on the review platform Rotten Tomatoes.

One viewer maintains: “The Kingdom is an under appreciated modern war movie compared to its competition. When people think of post Vietnam war movies, they think of The Hurt Locker, American Sniper, Black Hawk Down. But in my honest opinion, The Kingdom is just as good as any of them and is infinitely more re-watchable.”

They went on: “What Peter Berg did with The Kingdom was a masterclass in filmmaking in the genre. It’s often still grim and brutal, but it’s moments of levity, comic relief, and ever growing relationships make it a medium hearted experience, while still getting the narrative across that war is a brutal and ultimately a never ending cycle of violence.”

Another admirer concurred: “One of the most underrated movies. Great cast, high emotions and intense action.”

Whilst someone else contributed: “Oh wow. This was by far one of the best movies I’ve seen in a LONG time.

“A bit gory in parts and probably not for the faint of heart, but amazing! Mostly it was packed full of action! Jaime Foxx did an AMAZING job as always. The ending is a kicker. You sort of expect it but it really is a tear jerker.”

One viewer went so far as to declare: “I think this is probably one of the best action films ever made for me. The message was very solid and the acting was great. I would highly suggest you watch this film.”

The Kingdom is streaming on Netflix until February 10.
