A woman was left astounded after discovering what she brands one of the ‘most enchanting’ gorges in the UK.

Britain boasts countless stunning parks and walking destinations, with the South West of England being no exception. From the renowned Cotswolds to magnificent Cornwall beaches and forests, there’s always a new location to discover for those seeking adventure.

For those craving inspiration slightly further away, one outdoor enthusiast is now encouraging visitors to explore a particular spot in Somerset. She described it as the ideal destination for a ‘magical’ walk.

Georgia, known as ‘gplansthings’ on TikTok, revealed she’d been residing in Bath for nearly four years. She eventually made time to visit Ebbor Gorge, situated just forty minutes’ drive from the historic city.

In her brief video showcasing highlights from her expedition, she remarked: “The fact that I’ve lived in Bath for almost four years, and I’ve only just discovered this place is astounding.”

Nestled within the ancient limestone Mendip Hills in Somerset, Ebbor Gorge holds designation as a National Nature Reserve under Natural England’s management.

The site features a walking path offering something for all visitors, encompassing forests, rocky outcrops and caverns, plus streams perfect for splashing about. The site’s intricate cave system, shaped over thousands of years by rainwater gradually eroding the underlying limestone, has revealed a wealth of intriguing discoveries.

The most recent finds from the ongoing Gully Cave excavation include remains of aurochs, cave bears, woolly rhinos, reindeer and hyenas.

For those keen to explore, the Ebbor Gorge and Wookey Hole trail is an excellent choice. This four-mile (6.5km) route guides you through the gorge, offering stunning views of Somerset along the way.

“It was so pretty,” enthused Georgia. “It’s magical. Like, why would you not want to go here? It’s really cool.”

Regarding the gorge itself, Georgia described it as smaller in size but said it gave her the sensation of being transported into a jungle.

Her post quickly sparked a flurry of comments, with many users sharing their own experiences of visiting Ebbor Gorge.

One commenter noted: “Privileged to live 10 mins away from Ebbor gorge. There’s many good spots like this in a 5-10 mile radius of Ebbor.”

Another shared: “Did you get to the top of the valley and look out over the gorge? Bit of a climb, but stunning views on a clear day. Just don’t go too close to the edge!”.
