Netflix has dropped its first trailer for an upcoming film that romantic comedy enthusiasts won’t want to miss, though it comes with a warning about a rather devastating turn of events.

Subscribers are proclaiming the rom-com genre has officially made its comeback after getting their first glimpse of the new film, which lands on screens on Friday, 19th June.

Voicemails for Isabelle stars two rom-com favourites, Zoey Deutch (Set It Up) and Nick Robinson (Love, Simon), as two strangers whose lives become intertwined through a tragic loss.

Yet Jill remains completely oblivious to the fact that her sister’s phone has been reassigned to a stranger named Wes (Robinson), an estate agent in Austin who finds himself torn over whether he should reveal the truth.

The trailer unveiled this week hints at an extraordinary yet complex romance poised to sweep audiences off their feet, as Jill and Wes ultimately cross paths and forge a friendship while grappling with their burgeoning feelings for one another.

While Wes’s friend Andy (Harry Shum Jr.) describes the premise as a “sick reboot of You’ve Got Mail”, the trailer has already racked up hundreds of thousands of views from enthusiastic fans who are convinced they may have caught a glimpse of the rom-com of the year.

One X user exclaimed: “I can’t explain how sat I am, this is clearly a new classic for those with eyes to see.”

“With this and Finding Emily on the horizon, it feels like fun rom-coms are back on the menu this summer,” someone else agreed.

“This looks so much like romcoms are BAAACK,” said another user, and another declared: “REAL ROM-COMS ARE BACK!!”

“Nick Robinson finally back in rom coms oh my god we’re so back,” another fan said.

Over on YouTube, one user drew comparisons to another rom-com sensation, writing: “First Off Campus, now this romance is BACK.” While one final fan admitted “No I’m crying already” accompanied by a tearful emoji for good measure.

Alongside the two lead actors, Voicemails for Isabelle also features Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Spencer Lord (The Last of Us), Tanis Dolman (Fire Country), and Gil Bellows (Chucky).

The film was written and directed by actress and filmmaker Leah McKendrick, who made her directorial debut with the 2023 film Scrambled, starring Saturday Night Live’s Ego Nwodim.

Voicemails for Isabelle releases Friday, 19th June on Netflix.
