Omelettes are a quick and easy meal to prepare for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, as they’re incredibly tasty and filling at any time of the day.

You can add toppings like onions, peppers, mushrooms, or even little bits of ham, but there’s one ingredient that is guaranteed to elevate your omelette game from nice to incredible. The only difference is that it may look slightly different to your average flat omelette. But as long as it tastes good, who cares?

Chef Jose Andres, Spanish-American chef and restaurateur, has made it his mission to share the bold and vibrant flavours of Spain with the world. And this dish is no different.

He said if you make the omelette this way, it will be the “best in the history of mankind,” which is a seriously bold claim.

But the secret ingredient isn’t milk or butter. It’s something you probably already have in your cupboard or fridge.

It’s mayonnaise. Who would’ve thought that a large squirt of mayonnaise would be able to elevate an omelette to the next level? But according to Jose Andres, it certainly does, and it’s well worth a try in your own kitchen.

All you need to do is put one egg and one big spoonful of mayonnaise into a rammekin dish, then add a little bit of oil or butter. Mix the ingredients until well combined and then it’s time to cook.

Then, “put it in the microwave for 30 to 40 seconds,” and what comes out will be “the best omelette”.

It certainly was different to a ‘normal’ omelette when @arranmtaylor tried it for himself, as it looked a lot thicker and had obviously taken on the shape of the dish he microwaved it in.

He added salt and pepper on top, then gave it a try. Arran said: “That’s pretty good,” so it got the seal of approval from him.

Others also praised the recipe. One said: “I tried it, and it’s very good. Never would have thought. I put a little shredded cheese in mine and 2 eggs”.

However, some people weren’t sold on the cooking method. One wrote: “Microwaved eggs never taste as good”.

If you’re equally sceptical about microwaving eggs, fear not. Another foodie added: “Using a microwave pretty much shut me down from this; however, I did the same mixture and cooked it in my pan per usual, and it was okay”.

So next time you want a quick breakfast that’s rich and full of flavour, give this quick and easy recipe a go.
