New World War 2 film tells true story of German resistance boy beheaded by Nazis | Films | Entertainment
Following Bonhoeffer, a World War 2 thriller about the anti-Nazi German dissident executed by the regime, comes another inspiring biopic from Angel Studios.
Truth & Treason tells the incredible true story of a German teenage boy who quit the Hitler Youth after Kristallnacht when Hitler’s regime destroyed Jewish businesses and homes a year before the outbreak of the Second World War.
The 16-year-old Helmuth Hübener began illegally listening to enemy radio broadcasts, including the BBC, to create anti-Nazi and anti-war leaflets exposing the lies of Goebbels’ propaganda machine.
Tragically, he was caught by the Gestapo and beheaded by guillotine, becoming the youngest member of the anti-Nazi German resistance to be executed by Hitler’s regime.
Now his heroic short life has been adapted for the big screen with the first look trailer revealed at CinemaCon Las Vegas this week.
The World War 2 film’s official synopsis reads: “In the heart of Nazi Germany, sixteen-year-old Helmuth Hübener is living on borrowed time. Armed with nothing but a typewriter and the truth, he wages a silent war against Hitler’s regime—deciphering enemy broadcasts, smuggling classified intel, and dismantling the Nazi empire from the inside. Now, with his every move being watched, he must outrun, outthink, and outmanoeuvre one of the most ruthless secret police forces in history.”
Truth & Treason arrives in cinemas on October 17, 2025.
