There are so many films on Netflix right now that it can be hard to know what’s actually worth watching. Some get a lot of hype but don’t always live up to it. But every now and then, a film comes along that people can’t stop talking about, with viewers urging others to watch it as soon as possible.

This is one of those films, with some saying it’s one of the best they’ve ever seen. It has also managed to achieve something very rare, earning a perfect 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. And while it may not be as widely known as some of the bigger titles on the platform, those who have seen it say it’s a must-watch.

That film is I Swear, a British biographical drama now available on Netflix.

The film was written, directed and produced by Kirk Jones and is based on the true story of John Davidson, a Scottish man with severe Tourette’s syndrome.

He was previously the subject of the 1989 television documentary John’s Not Mad.

It stars Robert Aramayo as Davidson, alongside Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson and Peter Mullan in supporting roles, while Scott Ellis Watson plays a younger version of the character.

I Swear premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2025, before being released in the UK on October 10, 2025.

It went on to receive critical acclaim and picked up five nominations at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, winning two, including Best Actor for Aramayo.

The story follows Davidson from his childhood in the Scottish Borders, where he begins to experience severe tics, through to adulthood as he learns to live with Tourette syndrome and works to raise awareness of the condition.

Viewers have been full of praise for the film. One person wrote in a review on IMDd: “Drop everything and go watch it now. It’s on Netflix now, and everyone should watch it. It’s superb, heartwarming, human, funny and heartbreaking.”

Another added: “The best movie I’ve seen. Honestly, I left the cinema seriously thinking if I’d ever seen a better movie! It’s so perfect from the casting to the time jumps. Several goosebumps moments with a lot of humour!”

A third wrote: “It was an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to view this masterpiece. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone. It’s honest, uplifting, and human.”

Someone else commented: “My wife and I attended the UK Premiere of ‘I Swear’ in Glasgow Film Theatre. We were both blown away by the movie, which was funny, yet compassionate and thought-provoking.

“And the acting by the whole cast was top-notch. In fifty-five years of going to movie theatres, this is the first movie that I have witnessed receiving a standing ovation. And the adulation was duly deserved.”

I Swear is available to stream on Netlfix.
