The crime thriller was released in 2017 and follows a demented killer who taunts a retired police detective with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to embark on a private – and potentially felonious – crusade to bring the murderer to justice before he can strike again. Eccy, known as @eccyreviews on TikTok, said: “Are you stuck looking for your next binge? This show on Netflix is about to take over your entire life.

“The show I’m talking about is called Mr Mercedes. There are three seasons, each with 10 episodes, so you’ve got plenty to get through.”

Created by David E. Kelley, the series stars Brendan Gleeson, Holland Taylor and Jharrel Jerome, and is based on a series of novels by Stephen King.

Eccy added: “I’m absolutely hooked. Season one is genuinely unbelievable. It might be one of the best first seasons I’ve ever come across, and it pushed me straight into watching seasons two and three.”

Commenting on his post, one user said: “I’ve just finished this – I went through every emotion possible.” Another added: “I watched it a few years ago. It’s a brilliant series! I’ve just finished watching Mr Inbetween, which was also very good!”

A third wrote: “Incredible series – totally messes with your head.”

Reviewing the show on IMDb, one viewer said: “This show is very hard to review because it genuinely becomes an entirely different show after the first season. Seasons two and three move into a more traditional Stephen King style, while season one is the classic gruff retired detective-turned-PI being haunted by that one case.

“The killer communicating with him isn’t anything revolutionary, but the two leads are outstanding and the supporting cast is charming and perfectly cast. Seasons two and three are really enjoyable, but they’re slower-burn seasons, meaning they’re fine to watch while doing a puzzle or exercising, whereas the first season is so captivating you don’t want to miss anything. Hope this helps.”

Another user added: “After reading up on this, my curiosity was piqued when I learned that Stephen King wrote the character of Bill Hodges based on Brendan Gleeson. Growing up, Stephen King was my author of choice and, being Irish, I’ve always rated Brendan Gleeson as one of our best actors.

“I always thought the little-known Irish film I Went Down was one of his finest performances, but after watching the first two episodes of this, Brendan Gleeson is – as we would say in Ireland – brilliant. This is the best thing I’ve watched in quite a while and I can’t wait for the next episode.”
