M&S £40 jeans are ‘beyond flattering’

Victoria Beckham has perfected the art of looking effortlessly sophisticated, and her fashion label’s offerings scream quiet luxury – but with a simple pair of jeans retailing for nearly £400, her pieces come at a hefty price. If you want to channel her understated elegance, we’ve spotted a pair of flared jeans at Marks and Spencer that looks remarkably like one of her designs, only it’s about 90% cheaper.

Victoria Beckham’s Alina denim flares retail for £390, and are offered in three shades – white, a classic worn blue, and a dark indigo – with some stretch options for the same price. They are made from non-stretch 100% cotton denim and have a very 70’s look, with a high waist and wide flared leg, and some hem details that are super flattering. They also feature two patch pockets at the front with a VB logo embroidered on one, and have a button fly. Sizes range between a 24 and a 34 waist, and there are two lengths available.

Victoria, who often wears her own designs, is seen in the worn blue Alina jeans in the trailer for her husband’s 2023 Netflix documentary, where she pairs them with a T-shirt.

The elegant jeans are a lovely addition to any wardrobe, but at nearly £400 they’re not particularly budget friendly. Luckily, Marks and Spencer has come out with a very similar version of the jeans, retailing for £40, allowing shoppers to channel Victoria’s look for £350 less, reports OK!.

The M&S jeans have similar retro details, like the high waist and flared leg, and even feature patch pockets, although these ones are closed with decorative buttons. The difference here is that these jeans also have a touch of added stretch for comfort, and close with a zip fly.

The wash that most closely resembles the Victoria Beckham jeans is Medium Indigo, but there are also darker indigo and classic black options. M&S offers greater flexibility in sizes, with five inseam options across Petite, Long, and Short, but size availability varies by shade. Sizes range from six to 24, and although the jeans are fully stocked in black and dark indigo, the medium indigo are proving the most popular, and at the time of writing are only in stock in six, 16, 20, 22 and 24.

M&S shoppers have been very enthusiastic about the jeans, with one saying they are “stellar jeans, worth much more than their price”. In a detailed review, they wrote: “I don’t usually write reviews, but these jeans deserve it. They fit like they’re made for me. They’re right on trend. They are beyond flattering.

“I’ve had so many compliments, and most assume they’d cost me a fortune and not £40 (‘Love the jeans. Are they from Bella Freud?’). If you’re thinking of buying them – do.”

Another said: “Saw these jeans and had to have them… stylish, good length, love the patch pockets and the hemline detail. The are great to wear and look good.”

“These jeans are fabulous!” a third review said. “A slightly relaxed fit without being loose or wide leg. Lovely 70s feel to the design and incredibly comfortable. Haven’t washed them yet, but don’t expect any issues.”

One potential drawback of the M&S jeans is that, because of the added stretch, without the right care, they might lose their shape over time, unlike a 100% cotton jean, which is more likely to hold its shape.
