Singer nixes shows in Rancho Mirage and San Diego “due to an adverse reaction to a prescription medication”

Morrissey kicked off the new year on the same note as he closed out 2025: By canceling concerts at the last minute.

The singer — who nixed Mexico shows and an entire South American tour in November due to “extreme exhaustion” — was scheduled to perform Saturday night in Rancho Mirage, California. However, in a statement posted on the Morrissey-Solo website, that gig has been postponed “due to an adverse reaction to a prescription medication.”

Fans were informed they should “hold onto your tickets as they will be honored for a rescheduled date.” However, concertgoers for Morrissey’s Jan. 6 show in San Diego weren’t so lucky as that concert was canceled outright, according to organizers.

The San Diego Civic Theatre posted on social media that the Jan. 6 concert — which itself was rescheduled from a previously postponed May 1, 2025 gig — was “canceled,” and that “refunds are available at point of purchase.” It’s unclear whether the San Diego cancelation is due to the adverse prescription medication reaction.

Morrissey is tentatively slated to return to the stage on January 10 in San Antonio. After that, the singer has five more U.S. dates through January 22 before embarking on a European tour in February; a Jan. 25 gig in the Dominican Republic was previously canceled in late-December.

Morrissey has become somewhat notorious for canceling or postponing gigs for a wide variety of reasons in recent years; as the Metro UK notes, he has canceled 22 scheduled performances in 2025 alone, with another 10 gigs postponed. 2026 is starting off on a similar foot.

However, there is good news on the horizon for Morrissey fans as the singer inked a record deal with Sire in December to finally release at least a pair of long-shelved albums, his first LPs since since 2020’s I Am Not a Dog on a Chain.
