Megan Thee Stallion’s Lawyers Dismiss Tory Lanez’s New Evidence Claims
Megan Thee Stallion’s lawyers have released a new report detailing how there is no new evidence that would exonerate Troy Lanez, despite that rapper’s legal team (and fans) demanding his release.
The 31-page document, spearheaded by Megan’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, and obtained by Billboard, dismantles the “unsworn rumors being spread as fact” in relation to the 2020 shooting, as well as the claims of a new witness who said Megan’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris, was the shooter.
“Despite Mr. Lanez being convicted at trial by overwhelming evidence (that included his own admission of his guilt), he and his team — flanked by any ignorant person they can find — have pushed whatever misleading narrative they can,” Spiro said.
“One by one, their misleading statements unravel and all that is left is the simple truth: he was convicted by overwhelming evidence and those who seek to traumatize the victim of the crime should be called out as foolish bullies.”
The report dismissed the claims that Ring camera footage from the night of the shooting could help exonerate Lanez, noting that the Ring video was already introduced as evidence during the trial. Additionally, and most damning, Megan’s lawyers reiterated that DNA evidence on the firearm in question revealed that there was a 90 percent chance that the shooter was male.
In a TikTok post, Megan responded to the new evidence claims by Lanez’s attorneys. “At what point are yall gonna stop making me have to re live being shot BY TORY !?,” she wrote. “At what point are Tory and yall FANS gonna stop lying ?” SZA also voiced her support for Megan on social media.
Earlier this month, Lanez was hospitalized after being stabbed by another inmate at the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi. During a news conference following the incident, his legal team claimed they had a new witness who stepped forward to say that Megan’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris, was the shooter.
Spiro dismissed the new witness claim in a statement previously sent to Rolling Stone. “Tory Lanez was tried and convicted by a jury of his peers and his case was properly adjudicated through the court system,” said Spiro. “This is not a political matter — this is a case of a violent assault that was resolved in the court of law.”
Lanez is serving a 10-year prison sentence after he was convicted in December 2022 of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in both feet on July 12, 2020.
