A shortage of pennies has retailers and restaurants across the United States struggling to make change. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump ordered the Treasury Department to stop producing the one-cent coins in a push to cut government spending. Now businesses dealing with cash payments are grappling with what to do when exact change can’t be provided— leading some McDonald’s locations to round up or down.
