Matty Healy Didn’t Like It

The 1975 fans went into somewhat of a frenzy Tuesday when they noticed that “Human Too,” originally Track 9 on 2022’s Being Funny in a Foreign Language, was nowhere to be found on streaming services.

On Tuesday afternoon, Matty Healy revealed he decided to pull the song himself — simply because he didn’t like it on the album anymore.

“Hey! Human Too was removed from the album so the album is more how I want it to be,” Healy commented on a Reddit thread about the song’s disappearance. “Previous physical release obviously remains the same.”

On the subreddit, fans expressed both disappointment and confusion over the song’s removal, since the change was seemingly random. Some speculated it was a marketing move ahead of a new album, while others celebrated owning a physical copy of the record that still includes “Human Too.” (The track also remains available on the 1975’s YouTube page.)

In his comment, Healy continued by adding that he would probably not retroactively edit any other albums of the band… Well, maybe. “I am pretty happy with them outside of ‘What Should I Say’ from Notes On A Conditional Form,” he wrote. “So that may also be removed, who knows.”

Healy then signed off the note: “Sending love, Matty xxx.”

A few hours later, a new thread was started in the 1975’s subreddit by a fan begging Healy not to remove “What Should I Say,” Track 19, from 2020’s Notes on a Conditional Form. “I am BEGGING YOU MATTY PLEASE DON’T DO THIS! This song is so important to me, I think it’s such a bop, if it has no fans I am dead, if I never got to hear this song again it will be the loss of my life,” the fan wrote.

In a brief message, Healy simply responded: “Ok no worries x.”

When it was first released, Rolling Stone gave Being Funny a four-star review, while Notes on a Conditional Form earned a more tepid three stars.

2022’s Being Funny marks the last studio album release by the Healy-fronted band. The record featured standouts such as “Oh Caroline,” “I’m in Love With You,” and “About You.” The 1975 have released two live albums and their Charli XCX collaboration, “I Might Say Something Stupid,” since then.
