Released in 1975, the iconic film has arrived on Disney Plus just in time for Halloween. The movie is widely considered one of the greatest and influential movies ever made. It is praised for its masterful suspense with audiences still raving about the thriller 50 years on leaving them on the egde of their seats. Steven Spielberg’s first blockbuster not only changed Hollywood but also changed cinema forever. Jaws, the iconic shark film sees a gigantic Great White wreck havoc and claim bodies in the ocean surrounding Amity Island. Sheriff Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) teams up with marine biologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and local fisherman Quint (Robert Shaw) in a bid to take down the creature.

It was the highest-grossing film ever made until the release of Star Wars two years later. Fans are still delighting over the film five decades on. The original film holds an impressive 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, being dubbed a “cinematic masterpiece” and “truly great”.

One fan gushed: “This movie resulted in the “summer blockbuster” concept for a reason – it’s a solid watch, truly terrifying, and incredibly shot. Has that “Spielberg magic” that we would all come to know and love, but it’s definitely in a nascent form. Very watchable to this day…it shouldn’t be missed.”

Another echoed: “The definitive Jaws movie, the first blockbuster in cinemas and a classic with the success it deserves, simply perfect.”

“A perfect film on every level. Possibly the best film of all time,” a third penned.

A fourth shared: “The 3D aspect was perfect. It made you feel suspense being in the water with the victims.”

A fifth added: “Older than me and much older than my son. We just watched it together and is is one of the greatest movies of all time. Good music. Good suspense. Good acting. Great shark. Love it!”

Jaws 2 was released in 1978 with Schneider reprising his role as Sheriff Brody alongside Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton as Ellen Brody and Mayor Larry Vaughn, respectively.

In 1983, a third sequel, Jaws 3-D, hit the big screen, starring Dennis Quaid as Michael Brody, the son of Martin.
