‘Masterpiece’ film is Netflix’s most popular of all time with 96% Rotten Tomatoes score | Films | Entertainment
A “masterpiece” animated film is was named Netflix‘s most popular film of all time, and is hailed by fans as a “must see”. KPop Demon Hunters (2025) is action musical about Huntrix, a K-pop girl group, who wow crowds on stage but lead double lives hunting down entities from the “demon realm”.
Their musical and supernatural adventures come to a head as they face off with rival boy band the Saja Boys, who are secret demons. The film, which was was added to the streaming platform in June this year, and a sing-along version of the film was shown in theatres between August 23–24 and from October 31 to November 2.
As of November 20, it is Netflix‘s most popular film ever, with 325,100,000 views, and a staggering 541,800,000 hours watched, according to the streaming giant’s website.
The film was directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans who co-wrote the screenplay with Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan based on a story Kang conceived. It was produced by Sony Pictures Animation and distributed by Netflix.
Fans rushed to the Rotten Tomatoes to shower the film with praise. One wrote: “My daughter’s favorite movie. We love it! Absolute masterpiece!”
Another called it one of “the most amazing films of 2025 with one of the most incredible sountracks”.
“The animation, story and voice acting is spot on, and all of the catchy KPop songs surely won’t be able to get out of everyone’s heads soon. Absolute must-see if you have a Netflix account.”
A third added: “May not be a movie for everyone but my daughter and I loved that it was a sing-a-long. A lot more fun seeing kids having fun.”
A fourth said: “This was such a surprising watch for me. I love musicals, but I wasn’t sure about this one. I don’t typically like animation style like this and it seemed like a kid’s plot, but I was hooked from the first scene.
“The music is incredible (and addictive), the visuals were amazing, and I loved the plot. Yes, it’s cheesy. But… I love cheese when it’s the good kind.”
A fithh wrote: “Best movie ever! It even made my husband cry! My kids sang along with me! Super fun with moving music! We have been listening to the soundtrack ever since the movie and all my friends love it now too!!!”
The film has a superb 96% score on the review aggregator site’s Tomatometer, which reflects the percentage of approved critics who have given it a positive review. It scores even higher among general audiences with a near-perfect 99% score.
KPop Demon Hunters is streaming now on Netflix.
