Man buys Evian bottle at Wimbledon and people are confused about price

Wimbledon is undoubtably one of the most popular sporting events of the year. With many visitors flocking to the London venue for an afternoon of sun, drinks, and of course, tennis, everyone knows a ticket for the day doesn’t come cheap.

Most people tend to carry a bottle to fill up wherever they go, while others happily buy one the move. Now we all know how fresh and crisp Evian’s water can be, it’s also not the cheapest option for water out there.

Evian, which has had a partnership with Wimbledon since 2008, launched its refill system for spectators in 2024, which allows visitors to purchase a £5 bottle of Evian which can be refilled all day for free at the venue.

One man recently waited in line for a bottle of Evian where he discovered the “cool” feature. Since he shared it on X, many people couldn’t quite believe the shocking price it is for water.

Wimbledon Water Prices Spark Debate on Social Media

The caption read: “Cool feature at Wimbledon: £5 for an Evian bottled water that they will keep refilling for you (with Evian) for free all day (or the next day or next year).”

Since it was shared this week, the post garnered 1million views with mixed responses. One said: “Should be free, especially in this heat.” While another added: “Cool. And it’s only £5,000,000 for a bowl of strawberries and cream.”

Someone jokingly suggested: “Cool feature, buy the bottle at Asda for £1 and take it in.” While someone called it a scam, others thought it was a good system.

A social media user posted: “Pretty good deal considering UK prices.” To which another agreed: “Actually this is the best ever for a water company!”

How the Evian Refill Scheme and Reusable Bottles Work

Evian has been the Official Water of The Championships, Wimbledon since 2008. It secured a partnership through to at least 2027 where it includes on-court and grounds hydration for players and spectators.

It also offers a joint sustainability initiative featuring reusable bottle systems and refill stations, which was proudly introduced a few years ago.

Fans can buy an exclusive, reusable Evian bottle for £5 which allows them to refills of chilled Evian natural mineral water from designated stations around the venue.

A stainless steel reusable bottle is also available for the price of £25. Players receive a specialised on-court refillable water system which was first piloted and introduced in 2023.
