London Christmas market named one of UK’s best with nearly 100 stalls

While Europe is renowned for its festive markets, with Cologne boasting the largest, London holds its very own seasonal shopping event that is a hidden gem.

It was Spitalfields Market that made into onto the Indie’s list, ranked as one of the very best in the country and the only one in London to make the cut. The top spot went to Bath, followed by Birmingham, Cardiff and Winchester.

Nestled in East London, close to Liverpool Street station, Spitalfields Market is set to dazzle this November, switching on its Christmas lights in a grand ceremony on Wednesday, November 13 at 5:30pm.

The event promises a family-friendly atmosphere with complimentary face painting and children’s Christmas craft workshops, alongside performances by the market’s gospel choir.

With an impressive array of 42 food and drink vendors and 56 shops and stalls, Spitalfields ensures visitors are spoilt for choice.

Foodies can indulge in traditional seasonal fare like mince pies and mulled wine or explore global cuisine including bao buns and Jamaican curry goat.

Adding to the festivities, the Greenhouse Theatre will transform 8 Market Street into a winter wonderland from Wednesday, November 29 to Sunday, December 24 (closed on Tuesdays).

The venue will host a variety of activities, including their “eco-friendly, zero waste bar” serving a selection of drinks.

They’ll also present ‘The Lost Library of Spitalfields’, performed twice daily, and screen the all-ages Christmas film ‘Klaus’, reports My London.
