Lisa Joins Maroon 5 for New Single ‘Priceless’
Maroon 5 have released a new single, “Priceless,” featuring Blackpink’s Lisa. The infectious pop song marks the first time the band have collaborated with a K-pop artist.
The group also debuted a music video for the track, directed by Aerin Moreno. The cinematic clip was shot in downtown Los Angeles on 35mm film and visually nods to the film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, with frontman Adam Levine and Lisa in a contentious relationship.
“Priceless” is a “prelude” into Maroon 5’s upcoming eighth studio album, according to a press release. Details of the album will be announced soon.
“It’s just a guitar-based song, which we haven’t really done in so long,” Levine said in a statement. “It happened first for us while we were recording the album. I think it’s just the purest and we are so happy to have Lisa on it. The guitar intro is literally me playing into an audio message on my iPhone with an unplugged guitar. I actually got a little emotional recording ‘cause it was sort of reconnecting to our roots, which a lot of our fans have been saying ‘Hey we want to hear that sound again.’ It’s been like over 20 years so I think it’s time for that to return.”
Guitarist James Valentine added, “I got super emotional when Adam sent me the original demo of ‘Priceless’ because for me the sound represents Maroon 5’s earlier days. I joined the band in 2001 so when I was seeing them play in 2000, ‘Priceless’ gave me the same sort of excitement from the chords to overall vibe. I was super stoked on it and it established the writing and sound for our upcoming album.”
Maroon 5 are preparing to announce a world tour. It will follow an extended residency at Las Vegas’ Dolby Live at Park MGM, where they have performed 40 shows.
Levine originally teased the album and the tour last month during an appearance on The Tonight Show. “I cannot divulge all the details,” he told host Jimmy Fallon. “But the details are basically, roughly, there’s a single coming at the end of the month-ish. I’m really excited about it. An album is coming over the summer. Non-specifically around the summertime. And then, even more non-specifically, there is a tour coming in the fall-ish.”
Maroon 5’s last LP, Jordi, dropped in 2021. The album featured guest appearances from Megan Thee Stallion, Stevie Nicks, H.E.R., and YG, and included singles “Memories” and “Nobody’s Love.” Rolling Stone called it “downright elegiac,” noting that “a little more escape might’ve been welcome” on the overly serious album.
